[size=4](a) Given that (x-1): (x+1) = 2:3 and x:y = 5:4 , find the values of x and y.
(b) if 1/y : 1/z = 3:5 , express z in term of y and hence find the value of z.

(a) ( x - 1 ) / ( x + 1 ) = 2 / 3
3x - 3 = 2x + 2
x = 5
put x = 5 into x:y = 5:4
then (5) : y = 5 : 4
y = 4
(b) [size=4]1/y : 1/z = 3:5
(1/y) / (1/z) = 3/5
z/y=3/5
z= 3y/5
