(a)  ( x - 1 ) / ( x + 1 ) = 2 / 3
                        3x - 3 = 2x + 2
                               x = 5
       put x = 5 into x:y = 5:4
       then  (5) : y = 5 : 4
                       y = 4

(b)  [size=4]1/y : 1/z = 3:5
     (1/y) / (1/z) = 3/5
                   z/y=3/5
                      z= 3y/5
